Golf Fitness Training During Club Championship Season

Q: My club championships are right around the corner and I was wondering how I should adjust my golf workout routine to make sure I am ready to play my best?

I would focus on short (less than one hour start to finish), intense workouts to keep your body sharp. By doing intense workouts you will keep your body fresh but will still be giving it the training effect it needs to stay quick, powerful and flexible.

If you normally workout 3 days a week you should try for 2 high quality workouts a week and spend the extra day working on your game.

Rotational work should make up the bulk of your workout. By focusing on golf-specific movements in your workout you help ensure that your body will be ready to deliver maximum power when it is needed on the course.

You will not be making any additional power gains at this time in the season. The key is to be as fresh as possible to make sure your body is ready to play 18 holes over a few days at 100%.

Good luck in your tournaments!!
