Fat Loss Season: Add Yards To Your Drives And Get Into Great Shape

Summer is here and most of us are looking to drop a few pounds. If losing some weight is your goal how would you go about doing it?

Losing weight by using traditional methods, such as long sessions on the treadmill, can be a very time consuming and ineffective process. This is one of the main reasons that most people are unsuccessful at losing weight over the long term. It just requires too much time.

However, there are a few core principles that you can utilize to improve your golf-specific power and also lose weight quickly. I have used these principles myself for years continue to use them today because they work.

Keep Workouts Short – Try to keep your total workout time under 1 hour. After this amount of time hormone levels start to decline rapidly. You probably cannot afford to spend hours in the gym because it takes time away from other areas of your life. 60 minutes is more than enough time for anyone to get a very high quality fat burning workout in.

Focus On Intensity – Far too many people do long, drawn out workouts believing that this is the best way to burn calories. Your goal should be to burn as many calories as possible in as short of a time frame as possible. In order to do this you need to focus on intensity.

From a calorie burning perspective running 7 miles an hour for 20 minutes is better than walking for 40 minutes at 3 miles an hour because it is more intense. Intervals are an excellent way to burn more calories in less time. Obviously, the level of intensity you can use is dependent on your baseline level of conditioning and/or any other medical/joint conditions you may have.

Dump The Pump – The pump is a classic bodybuilding term that describes the “full” feeling your muscles have once they get a lot of blood flowing through them. While the pump is great for bodybuilders, you want to try and avoid it.

The lactic acid (usually referred to as “the burn”) that usually accompanies a pump can interfere with neural signal transmission and will actually decrease your maximum power output. As intensity should be one of your primary workout goals you can see why “the pump” should have no place in your workout.

Using these three simple principles regularly will help you burn more calories in less time, increase your overall athletic power and get into better overall shape very quickly.

Elements Of Power

If you have been following this newsletter for a while you know that the purpose of the Pure Power Program is to increase the amount of power that you are able to develop in your golf swing.

Increased power is a result of improving many different components of physical performance, not improving just one factor by itself. It is usually difficult to drastically improve power just by enhancing one physical component, such as flexibility.

The goal of any golf training program should be to constantly improve the different elements of power. The elements of power, as they related to golf, are:

Skill/Technique: This is by far the most important piece of the golf power puzzle. Skill refers to how well you have learned the proper movements of the golf swing so they become automatic, consistent and fully utilize the body’s natural levers.

Strength: The amount of force your muscles can produce.

Nervous System Efficiency: The efficiency with which your nervous system, muscles and brain communicate. Better communication results in more speed and power.

Balance: Maintaining your center of gravity and properly developing the opposing muscle groups that aid in balance.

Coordination: How well different muscle chains work together to produce complex, powerful rotational movements.

Flexibility: The elasticity of your muscles, ligaments, tendons and other connective tissues.

Mental Focus: While some golfers will disagree with this statement, power levels and overall performance are very strongly influenced by mental focus.

Most “golf-specific” training routines focus on the wrong things or focus exclusively on one piece of the power puzzle. The Pure Power Program is designed to improve all elements of power.

Combining the Pure Power Program with the teachings of your swing coach and mental coach is the ultimate game improvement plan for both the amateur and professional golfer.

Your Own Mental Coach

I mention above that mental focus is an important part of creating incredible power. I’ve always known that mental preparation was a part of scoring well on the golf course and producing maximum power, but I always discounted the role it played. Then I came into contact with David Breslow and had my opinion on the mental component of the game turned upside down.

David focuses on improving performance in both life and sport by helping people discover the undeniable cause and effect laws and principles that operate the same for everyone, no matter if you are Joe Schmoe or Tiger Woods.

David currently writes for the Golf Channel and has worked with golfers and teachers of all levels, including Chip Beck and the Dr. Jim Suttie Golf Training Schools

The amazing thing about David’s approach towards mental training is that he presents his concepts in simple, easy to understand terms. In addition, the principles that he teaches you transcend the golf function that they are intended for and improve other areas of your life outside of golf.

Distance Optimization Dashboard

For those of you that have not see it yet, be sure to check out the Distance Optimization Dashboard. It is the only tool of its kind on the internet and can help you maximize your distance and show you how increasing your swing speed/ball speed can easily add yards to your drives.

If you know anyone that would be interested in this useful tool be sure to let them know about it.
