Chapter 6: Endurance-The Missing Link for Sustained Focus

How many times have you gotten to the 14th tee and felt as fresh and energetic as when you started the round? For most of us, the answer is “not very often”. Typically at this point your focus starts to waiver, your ambition seems to disappear and your only thought is to get done with the round as fast as possible with as little stroke damage as possible.

Sustained Power Requires Endurance

Power can do absolutely amazing things for your game, but even more important that power itself is having the endurance to execute your golf swing at maximum power levels over and over again throughout a round as needed. What good is it if you start out hitting your drives 270 and by the end of the round, you are driving a sloppy 230 with no focus or regard for where the ball goes because you just want to finish? Is this how you would expect to feel if you were going to play your best round ever?

Every serious golfer must make sure that cardiovascular training is a part of his/her conditioning program, as it will help out tremendously in maintaining focus and energy throughout the round. You might also drop a few pounds in the process!

Boring Cardio? Never!

Believe it or not, there are an incredible number of ways to build up cardiovascular endurance besides the traditional 30 minutes on the treadmill. In fact, this type of cardio training tends to be one of the least efficient, and most boring, strategies for improving golf-specific endurance. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the time to waste doing things that work only to a minimum effect when I could be doing things that work great, meaning that I get better results in less time.

The Pure Power Program actually has cardiovascular training sessions built right into the weight training workouts we give you so you can get out of the gym fast. Gone are the days when a workout includes stretching, 30 minutes on the treadmill, more stretching, weight training and then a cool down. All this could easily take over 90 minutes. Your complete golf specific workout will take less than 60 minutes from start to finish, including warm up and cool down.

If you still feel like performing a cardio session after the main workout, we have plenty of cardio workout options for you to pick from:

  • Walking Workouts
  • Jogging Workouts
  • Interval Workouts
  • Many Other Types of Workouts

All of the workouts in the Pure Power Program reflect my belief that when you do the right things in the gym you can get in, get out and get on with your life.

Chapter 6-Endurance Summary:

  • Power in golf is useless unless you can produce it consistently throughout the round. Having an endurance base in place will help tremendously in ensuring that your power levels stay consistent.
  • Physical endurance is an absolute must for sustained focus. Increasing your endurance levels will greatly increase your ability to focus at the end of the round.
  • The Pure Power Program will arm you with cardiovascular workouts that will significantly improve your golf endurance and lose a few pounds without taking up hours of your day running on a treadmill.
