The slow motion video below of Phil Mickelson’s power golf swing is an excellent illustration of some of the key things you should try and accomplish in your golf swing in order to develop, store and transfer power to the golf ball for maximum distance off the tee and from the fairway with minimal effort. Look for the following in the video below:
Good hip rotation and also excellent shoulder rotation. This combination can be great for power if his timing/leg work is working well.
Significant wrist angle is maintained until very late in the downswing, which allows him to develop maximum club head speed and deliver maximum power to the ball immediately before impact resulting in maximum distance.
Moment of impact video shows that Phil, like all long hitters, makes contact high on the club face.

While a very long swing like Phil’s requires a high level of dynamic flexibility and strength you can employ some of the principles that allow Phil to hit 300+ yards and improve your game significantly.
If maintaining a great lag position on the downswing is difficult for you, as it is for most amateurs, it would probably be a good idea to increase your general upper body strength levels in order to develop the dynamic strength to hold the positions needed for maximum power and golf club head speed.
